Global Barrio & Era Art Bar are teaming up again to bring you another episode of our black-light benefit parties! This month, we'll be raising funds (as well as the roof!) to help the organizers of the Bay Area Mural Festival (BAMFest) launch their second annual festival in September.
BAMFest was created in response to a crisis in housing, youth joblessness, and the need to promote social justice. The festival provides employment to California muralists and arts training opportunities to at- risk youth. The building owners are all small, local businesses who receive free site specific works.
By bringing art into the public sphere, BAMFest attracts public attention to pressing social issues. The festival is a platform for exchanges among artists and the community to experience the distinct artistic process involved with mural making, and to foster new connections in our community. This festival is funded by a grant from the California Arts Council through La Peña Cultural Center and in partnership with the Richmond Art Center, EarthTeam and RYSE Center.
